Founders
The Patel community, rooted in Gujarat, Bharat, is a close-knit family of farmers whose heritage is deeply intertwined with the fertile lands of the western region. Their rich agricultural tradition reflects a harmonious connection with the soil, cultivating not just crops but a legacy of hard work and resilience. The Patels have sown the seeds of community bonds, nurturing a collective spirit that thrives amidst the fields they call home.
In the quaint town of Ambarnath, nestled 65 km from the bustling city of Mumbai, a story of resilience, ambition, and success unfolded. It all began in 1984 when Mr. Dhanji Patel, a man with dreams as vast as the fields of his village Dudhai in Kutch district of Gujarat, migrated to Ambarnath. He joined forces with his elder brother, Mr. Bechar Patel, who was already immersed in the grocery business.
Six years of hard work and dedication fuelled Mr. Dhanji Patel‘s desire to chart his own path. In 1990, he took the plunge and opened his first grocery store under the banner of Patel Enterprises. The response was overwhelming, encouraging Mr. Dhanji Patel to expand his venture further. The concept of supermarkets was gaining traction, and in 2003, the first Patel R Mart supermarket saw the light of day in Ambarnath.
The success of Patel R Mart was undeniable, prompting the opening of multiple stores, one after the other. Their vision extended beyond the local market; They saw potential in the export industry. Despite facing numerous challenges, Patel Retail ventured into exporting food items. Unwavering belief and willingness to embrace challenges led Patel Retail to be recognized as a 4-star export house by the Government of India.
Our motto encapsulates our vision — to contribute to the growth journey of the Indian economy and actively participate in its development. As we move forward, we remain committed to upholding the values that have guided us from the start – integrity, innovation, and customer satisfaction.
Mr. Dhanji Patel’s mantra became clear—everything is possible with a well-thought-out plan. Riding on the success of retail outlets and export ventures, Patel Retail identified new avenues. In 2016, the company established its first food processing factory in Dudhai, focusing on processing peanuts, chillies, turmeric, coriander, cumin, and more.

Patel Retail initiated a unique backward integration by directly sourcing commodities from farmers, bringing them to the factory for processing and packaging.
